Another Year Gone?
I haven’t been neglecting this. I’ve just been….. busy.
I can’t believe it’s been a year. For all the people who have been asking, THE BIG BOOK OF QUANTUM FICTION is nearing completion and will be out shortly. Sadly, I was not able to respond personally to every submission. There were just too many! So, feel free to email me back and ask why you haven’t heard back. Or feel free to complain. But, if you haven’t hear from me, it is most likely that your piece of work was not selected.
The trip to Barcelona was a triumph. I interested many people regarding Quantum Fiction with my poster presentation. I also almost died in a forced landing of our airliner during the trip home. I owe all of my fans a complete epistle on this, with pictures.
I have several submissions out:
The manuscript for THE BOOK GROUP MURDERS went on to be a semi-finalist in the 2026 Shelley Awards. Now, it is under consideration by a new publisher and imprint: Emberwick Press. (Their website is here: https://emberwickpress.com/) I admit personal bias in this regard, but I’m thinking this new publisher would be a great outlet for an undiscovered writer of my caliper. I am SO ready to get to work in a partnership with a green editor!!!
I also have a novella in the works: THE THOUGHTLESS EXPERIMENT. This is my first attempt at historical fiction: Austria, 1936. The tensions between competing fascists in Vienna and Berlin have grown to be far too much for Erwin Schrödinger. So, through a “thoughtless experiment,” he unwittingly unleashes a monster on the sleepy little university town of Graz, Austria, and enlists the aid of Professor Van Helsing’s grandson to help hunt down the beast before anyone finds out.
Right now, I am also subbing PASTORINI’S FINAL MESSAGE to magazines for publication. This science fiction short story explores what A.I. might turn into in the next 80 years. Hint: “It is sung to the tune of “Old McDonald Had a Farm.”
Also, the novel OVID POPULATION is still underway. This one (literally) occurred to me as I was eating a fried egg sandwich with Heinz 57 steak sauce. (Which did come first? The chicken or the egg? I will reveal this!)
I am releasing a THIRD EDITION of A/not A next month. (I think it’s about time; we’ve been through a lot of stuff.) This one will sport a brand-new cover by graphic phenomenon Karol Rork, who also worked seven different pieces into the interior of THE BIG BOOK OF QUANTUM FICTION. (Go, Karol!!!)
Finally: anyone who wishes to converse with me personally (or throw rotten fruit in my face): I will be in attendance at the PNWA 2026 Conference. This year it is being held in Lynnwood, Washington. (Here are all the details you crave: https://www.pnwa.org/page/conference) People will be able to recognize me: I plan to wear a t-shirt emblazed with a hideous eyeball, and the words “QUANTUM FICTION.” (PNWA has not given me a booth or anything; if we meet, dear reader, it will be by chance in the crowd.) I also plan to hand out a few copies of THE BIG BOOK OF QUANTUM FICTION; first come first serve.
